A Talk on Green Fashion by Professor Philip Yeung Kwok Wing, our School Manager & his Team

A Talk on Green Fashion with Professor Philip Yeung Kwok Wing (楊國榮教授), Executive Director (總幹事) of Clothing Industry Training Authority; Chairman, the Asian Federation of Textile Professional Association and Vice-Chairman, Hong Kong Institution of Textiles and Apparel on Wednesday, February 11, 2009

It is our greatest honour to have Professor Yeung and the experts from CITA, including Mr Alex Yeung Wai Hon (楊維漢), Programme Director(課程總監), Mr Patrick Tsoi Hiu Ching (蔡曉青), Lecturer (講師) and Ms Conita Cheng Chi Ping (鄭志萍), Lecturer (講師) to deliver to our students a talk on 『Green Fashion'.

「Nature has no problem. The problem is with us.」 said Professor Yeung, our School Manager, 「that's why Green Fashion is much talked about in these days」. The presence of Professor Yeung and the experts from CITA was a vivid proof to every LTFC students their enthusiasm for Green and Environmental issues as they shared ways in which we can live 『green' and care for the environment.

What is the cost of a pair of jeans, or a copy of a newspaper? You might say, 『Very little.』 However, it is not the price that matters. Since the moment that we are born everything we consume puts a price on ecology, more than can be imagined. It is mother nature who sacrifices whenever choices are to be made … global warming, loss of energy, water pollution, air pollution. All these are problems created by nature, they are problems we create. Now, as put by Mr Alex Fung, one of the speakers, to go green with green fashion and green life, especially when there are groups of people who are doing their best to save the environment.

What can we students of LTFC, as global citizens, do to help save our mother nature from danger? As consumers, we have the responsibility to support green enterprises and products. As students of LTFC, we have to develop a green mind, especially in our study and pursuit in one of our Focus Learning Area, Creative Fashion Design. Always ask ourselves questions: Are these products that I'm consuming harmful to the environment? Are there any products that help minimize damage and destruction? Mr Alex Fung was kind enough to give us a very detailed account on these. Students are advised to start to be green and it is our duty of lives. Be aware of every opportunity to be more environmentally friendly. At meals, choose to have organic food instead of those laced with pesticides! At work, be conscious not to work against the environment.

Remember, the environment doesn't need us; we can't live without the environment. All we have to do is to take care of it. Heartfelt thanks to Professor Yeung and his team for showing all these to us.
