Barrier-free Facility Experience Activity: Fostering Empathy and Awareness

To promote inclusivity and understanding, a group of our S4 HMSC students recently participated in a meaningful Barrier-free Facility Experience Activity. This unique initiative was collaboratively held by our School's Health Education Department and the Jockey Club Sha Tin Youth Integrated Services Centre. Held at the mall Fortune City One, the activity involved students navigating the public space from a wheelchair user's perspective.

Under the guidance of a social worker and a volunteer with a disability, our students gained first-hand insight into the daily challenges faced by people with disabilities. This immersive experience was designed not only to build empathy, but also to help students identify specific improvements that could be made to public facilities to create a more accessible and convenient space for all. The activity successfully encouraged our students to become more thoughtful advocates for an inclusive society.
