Lam Tai Fai College

In arousing students' interest and involvement in fashion and to create an art atmosphere in the campus, our school has designed a series of activities for fashion month, which included a film show, seminars, a career talk, an educational tour, a design workshops and a fashion show with students' own fashion design work.

We were honoured to invite Professor AU Wai Man, Associate Professor & PhD Advisor, Institute of Textiles & Clothing at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, to deliver a seminar on 「Career Development of Fashion Design」 for all of our students. He talked about job opportunities as well as the educational qualifications needed to break into the fashion industry through the seminar. Mr. HO Chu-Po, Demonstrator of the Institute of Textiles & Clothing at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University was also invited to share his expertise on Hong Kong Street Fashion which enabled students to learn different Street Fashion and to understand street fashion culture.

The school organized a trip for S1 students to the 「Hong Kong Story」 exhibition at the Hong Kong History Museum. The visit helped students to reinforce have a better understanding of life and culture in Hong Kong in the past. Also, our school organized a trip for S4 students to visit the Department of Fashion and Textiles, Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education in Kwai Chung, to explore them and get hands-on experience in a design studio, a knitting studio and an imaging design studio. They learned about the career prospects fashion for pattern making designer and apparel merchandiser, etc.

The highlight the fashion month was the 「Ethnic Chic- The Fusion of Traditional and Modern Fashion」 fashion show. At the end of the month, all S1 students and S4 Creative Fashion Design (CFD) students held a fashion show with their own fashion design work in the school hall.
Through the month's activities, students have learnt the basic knowledge of the fashion industry, the culture and the design process of how to express their creativity. They also learned pattern thinking and sewing techniques, as well as the importance of group work, public speaking and making presentation. We believe that setting a specific target for giving students opportunities to express themselves through art is an effective learning method for our creative and energetic students.
